Katie and Nate were married in front of the flamingos at Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens in Columbia, South Carolina (so cool, right!?).
This couple did their research on Columbia, South Carolina wedding photographers, and I was thrilled that they chose me to capture their big day! They did exactly what I encourage every couple to do – make sure you love the style of the wedding photographer that you choose! You are spending a lot of money on this day where the only thing that will last beyond the marriage itself are the photographs. Please make sure you love what you see when you review a photographer’s photographs (either online or in person). Remember too that you get what you pay for, so be sure to spend your money on the things that matter most to you on your big day. For Katie and Nate, the thing that mattered most to them was being able to capture candid, less traditional portraits. They were not interested in photographs of the details, getting ready, and a large reception coverage – they wanted ceremony coverage, a full hour of portraits of them exploring the zoo as a married couple, and a highlight of the reception (with some nighttime, off camera flash portraits) – and I was thrilled to capture this for them!! Just check out what was captured in several hours of coverage:
This is my favorite ceremony photograph to date; the smile on Katie’s face says it all!
The sunlight was *perfect* during their one hour of portraits around the zoo. Just check out this image of them near the lions. Ask me how we can capture similar lighting during your photo session!
The love between these two made it easy to capture the less-posed, more candid moments that they had requested. For this image, I had Katie do a dance-like spin into Nate’s arms, and this is what happened! Magical!
As the sun set, it was time to head to the Ndoki Lodge for an indoor reception with some beautiful details, tasty food, and good times.
Katie and Nate shared a touching first dance before Katie danced with their son in an equally moving moment.
After the dances, Katie had a surprise waiting for him at their sweetheart table! She had custom barrels made for Nate with his military details. They were unveiled, and he was surprised! Such a cool and unique idea!
I love that Katie and Nate allowed me to pull them aside for several minutes to capture some outdoor night portraits. This was the perfect bookend to their perfect day!
Katie and Nate were both out of town, so we were able to arrange everything over the phone and online. From selecting the correct package to planning the final photography timeline, we got everything settled via emails and phone calls. I love being able to be flexible for couples who need situations like this! Even though we actually met for the first time on their wedding day, everything went smoothly because of our communications.
Congratulations Katie and Nate! It was an honor to capture this day that enveloped the sweet journey that you two have shared throughout the years. May God bless you both as you start this new journey together as husband and wife!
